Guide

How Talkfolio works

Talkfolio turns your portfolio into a chat agent at talkfolio.me/[your-slug]. Visitors ask about your work. The agent answers from content you publish, captures leads, and can book calls.

This guide walks the full loop: claim a link, fill your knowledge base, tune My Agent, share the page, then run leads from the dashboard. It matches what the product does today, not a vague AI pitch.

01

What Talkfolio is

Talkfolio is a chat-first portfolio for freelancers, consultants, and creators. Instead of sending a PDF, Notion page, or five scattered links, you publish one Talkfolio Link. The visitor chats with an agent that knows your projects, rates posture, availability, and FAQs.

The agent is not a generic chatbot pasted on a brochure site. It retrieves from your profile sections. If you never added pricing or case studies, it cannot invent trustworthy ones. Quality tracks how complete your knowledge base is.

Talkfolio Link
Your public URL at talkfolio.me/[slug]. Visitors land here and talk to your agent.
Agent
The chat assistant built from your profile content. It answers from your projects, bio, FAQs, and other sections you publish.
Visitor
Anyone who opens your public page. They do not need a Talkfolio account.
Knowledge base
The profile sections you fill in the dashboard: projects, experiences, skills, services, testimonials, FAQs, links, and resume.
Lead
A visitor who shares contact info or shows buying intent. Leads show up in your dashboard with scores and conversation context.
Profile Gap
A question visitors asked that your content could not answer well. Gaps tell you what to add next.
03

Fill your knowledge base

After onboarding, the dashboard Content area is where the agent gets its memory. Empty sections mean empty answers. Fill the parts clients actually ask about.

  • Profile. Display name, headline, bio, location, avatar, email, resume upload, and pricing labels (hourly, fixed, milestones, or custom).
  • Projects. Title, description, problem, outcome, role, tech stack, and URLs. Featured projects surface more often in answers.
  • Experiences. Company, role, dates, and what you owned.
  • Skills. Names with proficiency levels the agent can cite.
  • Services. What you sell, deliverables, and price labels visitors ask for first.
  • Testimonials. Social proof the agent can quote when trust is the blocker.
  • FAQs. Question and answer pairs. Free plans cap at 10. Pro and Max are unlimited. FAQs also feed the public FAQ sheet in chat.
  • Links. Ordered social and custom URLs for Linktree and redirect tools.
  • Resume. Upload a PDF and decide whether visitors can download it from chat.

When you save content, Talkfolio re-indexes it for retrieval. Watch embedding status in the dashboard if answers feel stale right after a big edit.

04

Configure My Agent

My Agent controls how the conversation feels and which actions are allowed. Defaults work on Free. Pro unlocks deeper customization.

  • Agent name, greeting, and suggested prompts visitors can tap.
  • Tone presets and custom instructions on Pro and Max.
  • Accent colour and custom avatar on Pro and Max.
  • Show or hide rates and email in responses (Pro+).
  • Allow booking so the agent can offer calendar slots when you enable Bookings.
  • Allow resume download when a PDF is attached.
  • Hide Powered by Talkfolio branding on Pro and Max.

Keep instructions short and factual. Long prompts that contradict your published content create confused answers. Prefer updating Projects and Services over stuffing rules into custom instructions.

05

What visitors see

A visitor opens talkfolio.me/[slug]. After a short bot check (owners skip it), they land in a full-page chat with your agent.

5.1 Opening the conversation

They see your name, headline, greeting, and suggested prompts. FAQ questions you published are available as shortcuts. The first messages set lead intent: pricing, availability, stack fit, or general browsing.

5.2 Tools inside the chat

Depending on your settings, the agent can:

  • Answer from retrieved profile chunks (search across bio, projects, and more).
  • Offer a booking card when allow booking is on.
  • Prompt for an email when the visitor looks ready (rate questions, engagement).
  • Share a resume download when you allow it.
  • Redirect to a LinkedIn, GitHub, or other link you enabled.
  • Run a job-fit style analysis when a visitor pastes a brief or job description.
  • Log a Profile Gap when it cannot answer from your content.

5.3 What you see afterward

Conversations, visitor signals, and leads land in the dashboard. Hot intent (budget, timeline, hire language) raises lead score so you know who to reply to first.

06

Share three ways

6.1 Public agent page

Primary surface: talkfolio.me/[slug]. Put it in your bio, proposals, and cold outreach. This is the page trained for conversation and conversion.

6.2 Linktree page

talkfolio.me/linktree/[slug] is a themed link-in-bio layout with your avatar, headline, buttons, and a pinned path into the Talkfolio agent. Use it when you need a classic links page plus a door into chat. Clicks and visits show under Linktree Analytics.

6.3 Embed widget (Max)

Max plans can embed the agent on an external site via talkfolio.me/embed/[username]. The widget is chat-focused and marked noindex. Use it when your main site should host the conversation without sending people away.

07

Run your pipeline from the dashboard

Once traffic hits your link, the dashboard is the operating room:

  • Analytics. Visitors, conversations, leads, content health, and Linktree. Pro adds funnel, intent breakdown, gap intelligence, and AI Analyser. Max adds sentiment, topic clustering, and full conversation history.
  • Leads. Emails and scores from chat. Max unlocks tags, notes, pipeline stages, and visitor blocking.
  • Visitors and Chats. Who showed up, what they asked, and how far they got.
  • Profile Gaps and Top Queries. Demand you have not supplied yet. Treat gaps as an editorial backlog for your knowledge base.
  • Bookings. Availability and slots the agent can offer mid-chat.
  • AI Analyser (Pro+). Compares visitor demand to what your profile covers and suggests what to add.

09

Professionals board

/professionals is a pay-to-rank leaderboard by category (development, design, AI, and more). You need a logged-in account and a published profile to claim a spot. Bids start at a board minimum (currently $5 to claim, with raises and #1 takeovers following board rules). Checkout runs through Polar.

Use the board when you want discovery traffic beyond your own outbound links. It is optional. Your Talkfolio Link works whether or not you bid.

10

How the agent knows you

When you save profile sections, Talkfolio chunks that text and stores vector embeddings tied to your profile. On each visitor question, the system retrieves the closest chunks (bio, projects, experiences, and the rest) and grounds the reply in them, plus the tools you enabled.

That is why incomplete profiles feel dumb and complete ones feel sharp. The model is not browsing the open web for your résumé. It is searching the knowledge base you maintain. Profile Gaps exist so missed questions become content work instead of silent lost deals.

Talkfolio does not use your portfolio content to train general-purpose models. Your chunks stay scoped to your agent. Details live in the Privacy Policy.

11

Common questions

Is Talkfolio a static portfolio site?

No. The main public page is a chat agent trained on your content. You can also publish a Linktree-style links page, but the core product is conversation, not a scroll of case-study cards.

Where do the agent answers come from?

From the content you enter: bio, projects, experiences, skills, services, testimonials, and FAQs. Talkfolio embeds that text and retrieves the closest pieces when a visitor asks a question. Thin profiles get thin answers.

Do visitors need an account?

No. Visitors pass a quick bot check, then chat. They only share an email if they choose to, or if lead capture prompts them during the conversation.

How is Talkfolio different from Linktree?

Linktree is a list of buttons. Talkfolio includes a link-in-bio page, but the primary surface is an agent that answers about your work, rates, and availability, then captures leads and booking intent.

Can I hide the Talkfolio branding?

Yes on Pro and Max. Free includes a Powered by Talkfolio footer on the public chat and Linktree pages.

What happens when I hit my monthly message limit?

The agent pauses for visitors until the next billing period or until you upgrade. Talkfolio does not charge overage fees.

Claim a slug, publish a thin first version the same day, then thicken the knowledge base from Profile Gaps. One honest project write-up beats ten empty sections.
